Winter 2008

There's so much happening this winter at Schonegg - we're very excited that our restaurant, Cafe Schonegg, will be celebrating its 5th birthday, there's also Christmas in July and the Fireside Festival throughout August.

Christmas In July 2008

The tradition continues. Since 2003 we have celebrated Christmas In July with a European flavours - mulled wine, a warm glowing fire, hand-crafted decorations and delicious food. View our set menu here, menus from $ 34 per person.

Group bookings

Book your Christmas In July function any day of the week except Tuesdays, please note we can only accept group bookings for 8 - 36 people. See our Half Year Planner for available dates.

We will be offering our Christmas In July menu in addition to our normal luncheon menu throughout July.

Fireside Festival 2008

Make your winter escape and escape to winter. This year's festival will be the best yet, with more than 20 of the region's top tourism businesses hosting a range of activities.

We will be hosting a 5 Course degustation dinner each Thursday in August, each course will be matched with a glass of premium local wine. Places are limited, so book early. $ 95 per person.

Oktoberfest Long Table Feasts - Thursday's in September & October 2008

As the original Oktoberfest gets underway in Munich, Evelyn draws on her German heritage to create a traditional German feast, served at the long table. This hearty menu will include succulent roast pork, dumplings and traditional apple strudel.

One of the largest 'small farm' field days in Australia, the Murrumbateman Field Days showcases the 'tree-change' lifestyle with exhibits of farm machinery, animals and equipment. there's also a Sideshow Alley, rides and plenty of great food and wine available - in other words, there's something for everyone. Christmas Lunch at Schonegg - Thursday 25th December 2008

Last year was the first time we offered a Christmas Lunch and it was a great success - many who joined us last year have already booked for this year's event!

Enjoy a sumptuous 5 course degustation menu. Start with canapes to awaken your palette, followed by fresh seafood as an entree and a traditional roast for main, finishing with cheese and hot and cold puddings for dessert. Naturally everyone takes home a gift from us. Cost is $ 125 per person, places strictly limited.

New Year's Eve Dinner

Looking for a wild party, drunken crowds, loud music.... you won't find it here. Instead, we'll be doing what we do best - fine food in an elegant ambiance. This year we'll be offering a 5 course degustation dinner with a festive feel. $ 75 per person, includes a glass of sparkling on arrival.

Zoe's A Winner!

We are very pleased to announce that our wonderfully talented apprentice, Zoe, has just won her first competition, taking out first place in the 2008 Apprentice Chef's Culinary Competition Canberra heat. Join us in wishing her well at the finals in Sydney in September.

Canberra Wine Region Harvest Festival - Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 April 2008

An event created to celebrate the magic as humble grapes are transformed into premium quality cool-climate wines. Here at Schonegg we offered a free tasting table with visitors enjoying a sample of the fine produce available in our region - including Galloway beef, olive and mustard seed oils, jams and preserves and much more.

The event was a great success with Cafe Schonegg recording a record number of visitors on the Saturday and then exceeding that number on the Sunday.

World Vision Sponsorship

When we discussed our plan to sponsor a World Vision Child, we were very pleased when our staff agreed to forgo their usual Christmas presents to support our plan. Helen, one of our team, chose Eveline for sponsorship. She is 8 years old and lives in Malawi. In addition to monthly sponsorship, Eveline has been receiving mail and small gifts. A Phantom Visits!

Recently we were the very proud hosts of a rare and immaculate Rolls Royce Phantom II, vintage 1929. Those with a passion for facts and figures will appreciate her 8 lt 6 cylinder engine, equally impressive was the inlaid timber interior, leather traveling trunk and of course the silver angel. Her owners were also wonderful! Thanks for the opportunity to take these photos.

Canberra & Capital Region Tourism Awards 2007

Tourism AwardsThe Canberra & Capital Region tourism awards were held on the 9th of November 2007.  We were again excited and humbled to receive awards for Best Hosted Accommodation and Best Visitor Experience. We were also thrilled to be named as on of the region's 'Best of the Best', a new award recognizing the top 5 tourism businesses.

Thanks go to all of the staff, our suppliers and other local businesses who contributed to make Schönegg as great as it is and a big thank you to all of our guests who continually encourage us in our business through their patronage and support.

Schonegg On The Rocks

In early March 2007 Australian Capital Tourism invited us to showcase the Canberra region's fantastic produce at their Food and Wine Expo held at The Rocks, Sydney. We were joined by 11 Canberra Cool Climate wineries and distributed over 1000 free samples during the day.

Opening Ceremony & Party - Wednesday 24 January 2007

The Official Opening of our new building took place on Wednesday, 24 January 2007. This event marked the completion of more than 12 months of intensive planning and building and includes the addition of 4 new guest rooms and a dedicated guest lounge. This project has been partially funded by an Australian Tourism Development Program (ATDP) grant.
