Kirsty’s Masterpieces from Paris Competition
Kirsty is our wonderful Office Manager. If you have phoned, emailed or visited Schonegg during the week, Kirsty was probably the first person you met. She is the perfect ‘Director of First Impressions’ and we love her for it!
After distributing more than 100 tickets to the Masterpieces from Paris Exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia, we finally visited the exhibition last week. We loved it! We all had our own favorites – can you guess which was Kirsty’s? If you are correct, you could win a free 3-course dinner for two to enjoy during your next visit to Schonegg.

Edouard Vullard
Portrait of Woman in Green Hat
I think Kirsty has a secret ambition to walk the streets of Paris dressd like this!
The White Cat – Country Guesthouse Schonegg is animal friendly. Perhaps Kirsty likes cats…
Belinda, thanks for your entry.. best of luck!
‘Gabrielle Vien’ by Armand Seguin… there were 3 or 4 pictures that I really liked here, most had people in them, also liked ‘Princess Maleine’s Minuet’ by Maurice Denis and ‘Dinner by Lamplight’ by Vallotton. Eventually chose the first one as loved the composition, use of colour and light. Hope Kristy got shivers up the spine looking at it too…
Sleep – because I like my bed
Dinner, by lamplight by Félix VALLOTTON because it reminds me of the heart of Schonegg – the pleasure of the dining experience in the Murrambateman countryside.
Hair, by Henri-Edmond Cross
its very peaceful and meditative, colours are so smooth and luxurious, and generally very interesting!!
I think Kirsty might like “Rest” by Vilhelm Hammershoi, I think it is an elegant and peaceful painting.
Édouard VUILLARD
France 1868 – 1940
In bed
[Au lit] 1891
oil on canvas –
This would be Kirsty’s choice because Schonegg offers the most peaceful sleeps after fabulous fine food! And because I’m sure she loves to sleep deeply after all her hard work.
The Ball by Felix Vallotton – It’s got such great energy. Probably something Kirsty needs lots of!
My pick would be Pierre BONNARD “Woman dozing on a bed (Indolent woman)”. I found a lot of the pictures in that room a little…sad. This was one of the few that I would want to hang on my wall. I liked the kid with the ball as well, but that had already been picked a couple of times. Besides, who doesn’t like looking at nudie women??
I’d guess Kirsty’s favourite would be Dinner, By Lamplight by Felix Vallotton. Why? Who doesn’t like a good meal, good company and a bottle or two of wine?
“Dinner, by lamplight” by Felix Vallotton – maybe she digs the detail such as the cat on the lampshade and the feeling of intimacy, even though you’re looking in as an outsider.
Misia at her dressing table by Felix Vallotton because it has a feminine charm and tranquility. It depicts getting ready to face the world, put your best face on and best foot(shoes!) forward. I’m sure Kirsty would relate to this being a real lady.
I think Kirsty would enjoy “The Ball Corner” by Felix Vallotten as it is such a beautiful, relaxing scene.
The girl is having fun in the park and no doubt Kirsty enjoys any time she has to relax.
Fernand Khnopff’s Marie Monnom (Miss M. M…)[Mlle M. M…], for the sereneness of the painting, which may lead to the viewer to wonder what the sitter was contemplating when the painting was being created.
My choice is Sunlight on the Terrace by Maurice Denis as it might remind Kirsty of the lovely sunlit terrace at Schoenegg. I would love to have that happiness evoking picture on my wall.
Edouard Vuillard, In Bed. Because Kirsty sounds like a busy girl and could do with a nice rest.
in bed, for the relaxation
Maurice Denis’ ” Princess Maleine’s Minuet”
because like Kirsty, the painting exhibits attention to detail, a serene presence and an air of cultured accomplishment.
Armand Seguin’s ‘Gabrielle Vien’ I think is Kirsty’s favourite. I like the contrasting effect of Gabrielle’s bright face, fruit and scene through the window with that of the drabness of her dark dress and the room that she is in.
Maurice Denis’s ‘Landscape with Green Trees’ is kirsty’s favourite. i just like the magical/heavenly feelings it creates.
Sunlight on the Terrace , of course!! Because it echoes the view from the terrace at Shonegg. One that Kirsty , no doubt takes in to refresh her when hard at work.
Edouard Vuillard, In Bed. Simple tranquillity portrayed with beauty.
