Swiss Precision!

We often host travel journalists and it’s always nice to read about their experiences. In a piece published today, Judith Ellen described Schonegg as being ‘operated with wonderfully Swiss attention to detail’! Of course, its true, Evelyn does a great job making sure everything runs well.

Happy Easter

You should know that Evelyn takes her celebrations seriously. So this Easter she has done a wonderful job decorating the dining room with lots and lots of bunnies. We’re expecting some visitors, relatives from Germany with kids. So the pantry is stocked with chocolate and the fridge is full of coloured eggs (i.e. hand coloured, real eggs!).

We’re fully booked this Easter, so between a couple of hot cross buns and way too much chocolate, we’re going to be kept busy. We hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful Easter. And whatever your religious beliefs, embrace the concepts of forgiveness, new beginnings and hope.

Happy Birthday Canberra

Happy Birthday Canberra!

If you can’t make it to Canberra this weekend, don’t stress. There’s a whole year’s worth of activities planned. Check out the calendar here. See you soon!

Thank You!

You’d never guess these guys were from the land. I guess they’re just taking a leaf out of the Guest Book.. ! You’re very welcome Ian and Caroline, we loved looking after you.

Episode #118 Now Live!

I received an email from Tim Reid, host of  Small Business Big Marketing informing me that the interview we recorded late last year is now LIVE!

Link to the show here!

We covered a lot of ground. One point I made was that after 10 years, we find that you, our wonderful guests, are doing a lot of marketing on our behalf – wonderful TripAdvisor reviews, lovely comments in the guestbook and plenty of ‘word of mouth’. So thank you! You are the stars of this show!

Love to hear your comments.

A Walking Tour of Yass

Yass is just 15 minutes from Country Guesthouse Schonegg, just north of Murrumbateman. It is a town rich in history, the main street is full of old world charm.

Follow the link below to see a walking tour of Yass. Not only do you get a nifty Google Map to guide you, but each point of interest comes with its own commentary! Brilliant!

Walking Tour of Yass

And the Winner Is…. Nikki and Steve!

Congratulations Nikki and Steve!

Last week we invited you to enter our Shakespeare in The Vines’ competition. The energetic team at Flint in The Vines hosted ‘The Twelfth Night’ yesterday evening. (Three couples staying with us last night attended the performance and loved it!). To promote the event, we teamed up and created an amazing prize – dinner, show, wine and luxury accommodation. To win, we asked you to tell us what makes a night a Schonegg special FOR YOU in 50 words or less.

Here’s a few of the entries:

  • I have never stayed at your Guesthouse however I adore the little duck logo. I have enjoyed Flint in the Vines- and the beautiful Shaw wines. Shakespeare was my first literary love- I would love to share this experience with true love.

  • A relaxing time away where you feel as though you are part of the family …… wonderful hosts, amazing food, absolutely five star accommodation and to look at a view like this while sipping on champagne from your sun chair……. what more could you ask for? I LOVE Country Guesthouse Schonegg.

  • A few days at Schonegg is like a whole week’s holiday elsewhere – you are spoilt with AMAZING food, the best spa bath,  an enormous bed to sink into (I sleep sooo well out at Schonegg), wonderful hosts who become your friend after your first stay, and complete peace and quiet.  Schonegg is the place we go to recharge the batteries. (Here’s the photo that accompanied this entry).

The last entry (above) was from Nikki and Steve. They lead very busy lives and, as Nikki said, Schonegg is where they come to ‘recharge the batteries’. Normally each visit requires quite a bit of planning, so it was wonderful that when they got the phone call late last week  they were able to join us.

We think they had a great time!

Stay tuned for more competitions via our Facebook page.

If we can make YOU smile like these two… that would be amazing!

Schonegg to Star in Episode #118, Small Business Big Marketing

Clueless….?

When we opened our doors 10 years ago, we knew we were great at hospitality, we’d been doing it for years! But we didn’t know a great deal about marketing. A little daunted, we set about learning more.

Work With The Best

Over the years we’ve worked with some great marketers – Sarah Collingwood (now at Four Winds Vineyard) and Todd and Clint Wright at Threesides Marketing in particular. We’ve attended plenty of training, including some great breakfast meetings hosted by the South Eastern Business Enterprise Centre. And of course, we’ve read a lot – people like Seth Godin, Michael Hewitt-Gleeson and Michael Gerber rank amongst my favourites. Let’s not forget podcasts – I love podcasts! I’ve listened to everyone from Pat Flynn to Phil McKinney and Bevan James Eyles, but my all time favourite is Tim Reid from Small Business Big Marketing.

Tim Reid, Small Businss Big Marketing

Tim’s podcast ‘Small Business Big Marketing’ consistently tops the iTunes lists in the business category, he always gets a thrill when he knocks Seth Godin or the Australian Stock Exchange off top spot!  A few months ago, Tim referred to TripAdvisor in a couple of consecutive podcasts. He wondered if he might get the CEO of TripAdvisor as a guest on the show. Not one to miss an opportunity, I got in contact. I explained that whilst I wasn’t the CEO of TripAdvisor, we had plenty of experience with it. Country Guesthouse Schonegg is ranking higher than any of the accommodation providers in Canberra, including the trendy boutique hotel Aria and the 5-star Hyatt!

Tim invited me to share some of my marketing wisdom in an interview which was recroded in December. The time has come for it to be released, and obviously, we’re stoked! Stay tuned for Episode #118, when ‘a little guy from the country shares some marketing gold’! It should be a hoot!

What Do You Think?

So what do you think? Has our marketing improved? Here’s a few samples from ‘back in the day’ to show you where we started….

Share your comments, share your memories. And keep your ears open for next week’s podcast.

Please let us know what you think of Tim’s ‘Schonegg’ show. And if you haven’t already, drop by TripAdvisor and leave your review.

Thanks for being part of the Schonegg family. If you’re into marketing, dive into Tim’s website. In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you back to Schonegg soon!

The Twelfth Night

Evelyn and I attended a ‘Shakespeare in the Vines’ event last year and absolutlely loved it! An idyllic setting, so much more than ‘theatre in the round’, the actors mingle with the crowd – a great night of entertainment! Find out more about The Twelfth Night here.
